COBALT AMPLIFIERS

Cobalt™ amplifiers are positioned in Orion's product lines as an entry point into high-end car audio. Cobalt amplifiers are perfect for customers with a limited budget that expect great performance. These amplifiers are designed and engineered in the USA with the same quality and performance that you expect from Orion.

COBALT AMPLIFIER FEATURES AND BENEFITS
HIGH-GRADE COMPONENTS

All Orion Cobalt amplifiers use the same high-grade components that are used in the upper end series of product. Tolerance components in the signal paths are paid special consideration to improve the small signal specifications.

The output and power supply devices used in the Orion Cobalt amplifiers are rated at 10%-20% higher than are required for the amplifiers power output. This is to ensure that the amplifier will deliver consistent power in extreme conditions. As components increase in temperature, their value reduces, this is called de-rating. This can be detrimental to the components over a long period of time.

HIGH EFFICIENCY ALUMINUM HEATSINKS

The Orion Cobalt heatsink is extruded from high-grade 6061 automotive grade aluminum. The design of the heatsink has been optimized to pull heat away from the devices as efficiently as possible and dissipates the heat evenly across the entire heatsink area.

FULLY ADJUSTABLE CONTROLS

The front end of the Cobalt amplifiers are deigned to be extremely flexible to allow virtually any system set up and/or upgrade. With fully variable crossovers, audio line out and remote bass control, these amplifiers will hit hard no matter what the set up is or what vehicle they're in.

HIGH-LEVEL INPUTS WITH AUTO-SENSE TURN ON

At these entry-level price points, there is no doubt that most of the customers will likely be using their factory head unit with these amplifiers. To aid in the installation, we have equipped these amplifiers with high-level inputs that also include an Auto-Sense circuit. When more than 1V is detected on the speaker line, the amplifier will turn on. Once the voltage is gone for more than 30 seconds, the amplifier will turn off.

COBALT SUBWOOFERS

Who knew that entry-level subwoofers could perform like this. Cobalt™ subwoofers will absolutely blow your mind. With a bumped back plate, extended pole piece, double stacked magnets and high roll surround that give an astounding 10.25mm of Xmax.

COBALT SUBWOOFER FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MOTOR ASSEMBLY

The motor assembly includes a bumped back plate and extended pole to provide maximum excursion and minimal bottoming.

SPIDER

Orion® Cobalt subwoofers use Conex for the spider material. This material significantly prolongs the life of the subwoofer and maintains its performance. Many other materials deteriorate and begin to "dish" which cause the voice coil to no longer be centered in the magnetic gap and negatively affects the performance of the driver and ultimately results in a voice coil failure.

TINSEL LEAD

Tinsel leads are the number one failure mode of subwoofers. There are various ways to attach the tinsel leads, the first is just to arc them from the terminal to the cone, the leads have the potential to either break or short together. Another is to weave them into the spider, this method prevents them from shorting together, but causes the leads to stretch as the spider moves, resulting in breakage. Cobalt subwoofers feature a loop-stitch method that loops the lead over the rolls in the spider and then secures the lead in the valleys of spider with a stitch. This keeps the leads free of tension, but secure during peak excursion.

X-VENTING

Heat is the root of all evil. To relieve as much heat as possible, Cobalt subwoofers feature X-venting on the voice coil former and the neck of the cone underneath the dust cap. Both of these vent areas aid in removing heat from the motor assembly of the driver. This improves both the peak power handling and extends the overall life of the driver.

COBALT COAXIAL SPEAKERS

Cobalt™ coaxial speakers are positioned as entry-level to the Orion® line, but there is nothing entry-level about them. These speakers are designed for car audio enthusiasts that expect great performance at a reasonable price.

COBALT COAXIAL SPEAKERS FEATURES AND BENEFITS
PROGRESSIVE SUSPENSION

Speakers are expected to work in a variety of applications. Orion speakers are designed to perform well throughout their entire bandwidth of power handling. The progressive suspension enables these speakers to perform very well while powered by the head unit or amplified.

VEHICLE FITMENT

As speakers are expected to work in a variety of applications, they are also expected to fit in a wide variety of vehicles. These days, the OE speaker systems are much more elaborate and have a wide range of sizes. Orion speakers are designed to fit the majority of these applications. Close attention is paid to these elements when designing the speakers. Key areas are mounting, magnet depth and diameter and the distance the tweeter protrudes from the front of the speaker to ensure the speaker fits properly.

MATERIALS

Even in the entry-level product, Orion cuts no corners when it coems to materials. The Orion speakers use a paper/fiber blended cone that is rigid yet lightweight to reproduce the music as accurately as possible. The Tweeter is a large metalized polymer to extend the high frequency response.
